| Generally an annual, bachelors' buttons may occasionally overwinter. In favorable locations they self-seed, breeding fairly true-to-type, and may become naturalized, although not so aggresively as to be invasive; this is a good indicator of an easy-to-grow plant.
Bachelors' buttons prefer sandy, well-drained soil, but tolerate a range of conditions. They have excellent drought resistance. Sow anytime from late fall until early spring; the seeds need at least three weeks of frost. Dry cut bachelors' buttons upside down for use in "everlasting" boquets. |
