Wriggle Pup Sharklettes

While the wriggle pup sharklettes may be the smallest of wriggler-class Land Shark (which SEE), they are also the most infamous of "swarming sharks," as pack-hunting varieties are called. Only a foot in length, their swarms of 10-100 individuals can wear down even the largest of prey.

The favorite tactic of the wriggle pup sharklettes is to hide in the undergrowth about a path, waterhole, or other frequented place in order to surprise prey by leaping from all sides. Areas with deep mosses or drifts of fallen leaves to provide humid shelter while lying in wait are preferred. Their camouflage coloration reflects this, with deep moss-green and the tan of dried leavers being common color phases.

Being smaller and more active than other sharks, wriggle pups spend only 80% of the time snoozing. Being able to scent prey in their sleep, they often position themselves for an ambush and sleep at their posts; the scent of approaching prey will awaken them in plenty of time.

Wriggle pups lay their eggs in a communal "urn." These are pits dug in the ground and lined with clay. The eggs and a great mass of nutrient jelly are laid and the urn sealed. The jelly is topped with a layer of water brought from some nearby stream. As needed, the sharks bring entire bellyfuls of water to keep the urn topped up. Hidden in the undergrowth, the urns are difficult ot find - especially as the wriggle pups guard them so valiantly.

The hides of wriggle pups are cured to make a range of high-quality, long-lasting sandpapers.
